Adaptive Sports at Sun Peaks (ASSP) is a not-for-profit, charitable organisation that provides opportunities for people of all ages living with a disability to participate in adaptive snow sports and recreation programs at Sun Peaks. One of the primary goals of ASSP is to allow students with a disability to experience the freedom, joy and satisfaction of skiing and snowboarding. Our programs rely on a strong community volunteer network with all lessons being taught by Volunteer Instructors. Our program philosophy is to encourage and support lifelong participation for our students, to enhance their physical fitness and mental wellbeing.
We strive to provide a program that is individualized to each student interests, their specific goals and abilities. Although we do teach a skills based program, ASSP values are to engage participants in a healthy lifestyle, providing a sense of inclusion and community with the Adaptive Sports at Sun Peaks. We are committed to providing opportunities and removing barriers to engaging in sport and recreation, and in doing so promote increased self confidence, independence and improved quality of life. This participation in an active, healthy lifestyle is in keeping with Canadian Sport for Life’s model of Long Term Athlete Development and sport for life.
