BC Hydro Sun Peaks Duct Bank Construction Project
To improve the reliability and increase the capacity of the electrical system that serves all BC Hydro customers in Sun Peaks, BC Hydro is building new underground infrastructure. To achieve these improvements BC Hydro must undertake a construction project in the roadway along Creekside Way, Village Way and part of Sun Peaks Road.
This project will achieve two main objectives:
1) It will allow BC Hydro to meet the future electrical needs of this quickly growing mountain resort municipality.
2) It will mean that during some power outages, depending on the circumstance, BC Hydro may be able to sectionalize the system to minimize the number of customers affected by the power outage. In these cases, BC Hydro will be able to reconfigure the system temporarily to isolate the area of the system where the problem is located and turn power back on to customers outside of that area.
Construction will take place in the road right-of-of way and will require the digging of a trench approximately 2 metres deep to lay the new duct bank. This work will be done in sections of between 50 metres and 200 metres long. When a section is completed construction crews will move to the next section.
BC Hydro has worked with the Resort Municipality and hotel operators in an effort to minimize the impact of construction. At no point will any of the roads be fully closed, one lane will be open at all times through the construction zone.
Construction work began on Creekside Way, east of Fairways Drive, the week of June 5. Generally crews will be working from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays, and may include work beyond those hours and on Saturdays and Sundays as necessary. Work will be from Monday to Friday in July and August.
Please expect typical construction activity and construction noise during this time.
