Can I attend Council meetings?

Yes, the public is welcome at all Committee of the Whole and Regular Council meetings. However, from time to time Council may have incamera meetings which are closed to the public.

How can I speak at a Council meeting?

When time allows, the Mayor will open the floor to questions from the public pertaining to any topic addressed during the meeting. If you wish to be included on the agenda to discuss an item on the agenda, a request for a delegation must be submitted no later than 1 p.m. on day of the Council meeting. If you wish to address Council on a new topic, a request for a delegation must be submitted no later than 1 p.m. Wednesday prior to a Council meeting.
A delegation request must include your name, a brief outline of your presentation and any applicable background information. It is at the discretion of the Corporate Officer to schedule a delegation to another Council meeting or Advisory Body meeting as deemed appropriate. A delegation will be given up to a maximum of five minutes to make their presentation.

When are public hearings held?

Public hearings will be held on an as required basis. Notification of these hearings will be posted on this website stating the topic, time and location.

Who can vote in a Sun Peaks municipal election?

All residents of Sun Peaks…

  • Who are 18 years or older
  • Canadian Citizens
  • Have resided in BC for a least 6 months
  • Have resided in Sun Peaks for at least 30 days prior to voting day.

Non-resident Sun Peaks property owners…

  • Who are 18 years or older
  • Canadian Citizens
  • Have resided in BC for at least 6 months
  • Owned property in Sun Peaks for at least 30 days prior to voting day
  • Property must be owned personally, not by a company or trust
