Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality Emergency Operations Centre
For Immediate Release: July 11, 8:30 p.m.
Sun Peaks, BC – An evacuation alert was issued by the Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality (SPMRM) today at 1:45 p.m for all properties with the municipal boundary due to the potential threat of a nearby wildfire. In addition, the Sun Peaks Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) has elevated to level 3.
The Embleton Mountain wildfire is reported at 290 hectares with crews encountering favourable conditions today, according to BC Wildfire Service (BCWS). Heavy air support helped to control the fire, alongside ground crews and heavy equipment to assist in protecting homes. Structural protection assessment teams were also in place and an incident management team was assigned. Tomorrow BCWS will continue its efforts.
Sun Peaks Fire Rescue personnel remained on site today and will continue throughout the night.
Whitecroft remains under an evacuation order from the Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) and nearby properties in the Heffley Lake area remain under an evacuation alert. Two additional evacuation alerts were issued this afternoon for properties north and south of Whitecroft.

Officials are asking anyone who is not a full-time resident to refrain from coming to Sun Peaks at this time. The section of Sun Peaks Rd. from Whitecroft to Sun Peaks is currently open for travel to full time residents only.
