Dear Sports Friends,

We need your vote on this important subject. The holiday should be the 2nd Monday in February if we wish to avoid the crowds on the following Monday which is President’s Day and Alberta winter break.

For those who have invested in the ski business, or who enjoy a quieter day on the slopes and for all the employees in the tourism businesses, please make sure that your family and friends vote for the 2nd Monday in February.

The Provincial Government will be soliciting input from British Columbians regarding Family Day between May 8th and May 22nd, 2012. Accordingly, if you have not already done so, I would strongly urge you to vote for the 2nd Monday in February via the following Government Blog: http://blog.gov.bc.ca/bcfamilyday/

Please share this information with your co-workers and friends, we have an opportunity to make the right decision.

Thank you,

Al Raine
Mayor

We became a “‘village’” municipality on June 28, 2010. With local decision-making now in place, our community is looking forward to some very positive changes in the coming years. Keep tuned to this website as we move forward to improve Sun Peaks as a community and a resort.

This website is a communication vehicle for all residents and property owners in Sun Peaks. I urge residents and property owners to visit the site on a regular basis. We will endeavour to make sure that Council provides ample time to review issues before them. We welcome your feedback by email, slow mail and through submissions and delegations to Council.

With the majority of property owners living and working outside of Sun Peaks, communications is extremely critical. We recognize that many of you reside here for your quality recreational and relaxation time and that you are keen to make Sun Peaks a better community. On-line you will be able to follow all issues brought to the council table including the following:

Council agendas and briefing attachments

Minutes of all Council meetings

Minutes of all Council committees and advisory bodies

Public Notices

Budgets

Upcoming bylaws and bylaws under review

Official Community Plan meetings and notices

Press releases by the Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality

See you on the slopes!

Al Raine

Updated October 7, 2011

Where do I vote?
You may vote at the Sun Peaks Municipal Office located at 106 Kookaburra Lodge on either November 9th or 19th. Polling stations will be open from 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM both days.

You may also vote at the Thompson Nicola Regional District Office located at 300 –465 Victoria St. Kamloops, BC

When can I register to vote?
Voting registration will be done on voting day only.

Do I need identification in order to vote?
When registering to vote on the day of voting, you must have two pieces of identification (ID). The ID must show your residential address and one of them must have your signature.

If you are a non-resident property elector (see below) you will need to fill out a Non-Resident Property Elector application (click here) and, if applicable, a consent form (click here) signed by the majority of other owners.

Who may vote in the 2011 Sun Peaks municipal election?
You may vote in the Sun Peaks municipal election as a resident elector if you:

- are a Canadian citizen;
- are 18 years of age or more on general voting day;
- have lived in BC for at least six months before general voting day; and
- have lived in the municipality for 30 days or more before general voting day.

You may vote in the Sun Peaks municipal election as a non-resident property elector if you:

- are not a resident elector in Sun Peaks;
- are a Canadian citizen;
- are 18 years of age or more on general voting day;
- have lived in BC for at least six months before general voting day and;
- have owned the property for at least 30 days before general voting day.

I am a non-resident and own more than one property, do I get extra votes?
No, you may only vote in relation to one property.

What if I own property with someone else?
Only one non-resident property owner may vote for each property. In other words, if two or more non-resident
property owners own a single piece of property, the majority of owners must designate — in writing — one owner as the non-resident property elector for that property.

What if I own property with someone else, and that person is living in the house?
The person living in the house may vote as a resident elector because he or she lives there. As a non-resident property owner, you are also eligible to vote for that property, but you will still need the written consent of the other owner(s).

What if I will be unable to vote on November 19th?
General voting day is November 19th but an additional voting day will be held on November 9th.

Voting by mail is also an option for qualified electors. Packages will be available November 1st that include procedures and instructions. Mail ballot requests can be submitted up to Friday, November 18th. Electors are responsible to ensure ballots are received by 8:00 PM November 19th. Please contact the Sun Peaks Municipality for a package. For mail ballot details, click here.
