We have made several major commitments to community facilities this year and are pleased with the wonderful responses and appreciation that we have received from the community.
However, to realize the Health Centre’s full potential, we need some community financial support for the medical equipment. Our goal is to raise $400,000 for equipment. We are presently at $331,700.
2016 Community Projects
Walking/cycling trail along Sun Peaks Road
We are all so pleased to see that the community is using this pathway and not walking along the main road which can be a very risky adventure in the winter months. The new solar lighting system is almost completed so use of the path is the safest route at night. Thank you to the Province of BC and Minister Todd Stone for the support on this project.
By the time you receive this message, the new NHL sized rink should be close to opening for operations. The hours and schedules are posted on the Sun Peaks website at www.sunpeaksresort.com. Again thanks to the Province and Minister Terry Lake for the support and kick-off funding that helped us launch this new addition.
The Health Centre is presently under construction and we should have the building waterproofed by late January. The construction costs of this facility will be covered in part by $500,000 from the Sun Peaks Health Association, a number of grants including the Thompson Nicola Regional District ($117,000) and Federal/Provincial Gas Tax funding ($40,000) as well as $500,000 from the Municipality which came from savings during our first few years of operations. We expect to have the official opening in late September or early October but we cannot open with an empty building.
The regional Interior Health Authority will not fund our Health Centre, therefore the equipment and operating costs must be supported locally. With local funding support and equipment grants from the Province ($100,000) and the Southern Interior Development Initiative Trust ($50,000), we are close to reaching our $400,000 equipment objective but we still need your help.
Here is how you can help make this happen!
With a donation of $400, a BC resident will receive a combined federal and provincial charitable tax credit of $128. Your cost to donate $400 is about $272 dollars.
With a donation of $1,000, you will receive a combined federal and provincial charitable tax credit of $390. Your cost to donate $1,000 is only $610.
Even $100 helps. Your donation can result in a tax credit of $20 which reduces your cost to just $80.

Equipping our Health Centre with quality equipment will enable the facility to offer a better level of medical response. None of us know when we might next need urgent medical or health services but we all know how well we feel after we have a successful medical outcome. Most of us are pleased to donate to Health facilities following positive medical treatment. Let’s enable our doctors and health care providers to meet our medical expectations by donating now before we need medical help. Your financial commitment now will help us secure full time health services for Sun Peaks.
Thank you for your commitment to making Sun Peaks a safer and healthier community!
