The Municipality will be holding an information session at 2 PM on September 13th as Council intends to upgrade water services. Loan Authorization Bylaw No. 0165, 2021 has been drafted for the purpose of borrowing up to $7,600,000 to provide upgrades to the surface water reservoir by installing a supply line from the reservoir to the main potable water system as well as construction of a valley reservoir, called Pressure Zone 4 (PZ4) in the Lookout Ridge area. This is required to meet fire flow capacity for the entire resort as this reservoir (PZ4) will supply water to three other reservoirs – PZ3 near Douglas Court, PZ2 near the Elementary School and PZ1 in the Burfield area. Grant applications have been submitted for portions of this work and, if successful, will reduce the borrowing required.
Long-term borrowing requires approval of the electors of the Municipality, which Council is seeking through an Alternate Approval Process (AAP). The AAP requires that electors be notified of the intent to adopt the borrowing bylaw and be given an opportunity to sign an elector response form opposing the bylaw. If fewer than 10% of the electors oppose the bylaw, it will be adopted. The form can be accessed here. For further information on the AAP, please contact Nicky Braithwaite at email@example.com.
