Utility Water / Wastewater Operator – EOCP Level II / III – Two (2) Positions Available
The mountain resort community of Sun Peaks, British Columbia attracts thousands of visitors annually to our world-class destination resort located a 45 minute drive north-east of Kamloops, BC. To meet the demands of our fast paced growth, Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality has an opening for another qualified operator bringing our team to 7 operators.
Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality operates a Level II water treatment and water distribution system and Level I wastewater collection and Level III wastewater treatment system for the resort community. Our three Water treatment plants are supplied by deep water wells and utilize high pressure green sand filters to remove some mineralization prior to distributing the potable water throughout the resort.
New this year will be the additional of a surface water treatment plant to supplement our groundwater production. The Wastewater treatment plant processes approximately 185,000 m3 of effluent annually and utilizes primary and secondary treatment (activated sludge). The wastewater treatment plant uses the wastewater solids to produce a high-grade biosolids utilizing an In-Vessel Composting System. Sun Peaks also operates the propane gas storage and distribution system for the resort community.
Sun Peaks has an opening for an EOCP (or equivalent) Operator with their Level II or III in Wastewater Treatment and/or Water Treatment with a minimum of 3 years of experience. The applicant must hold and maintain a valid Class 5 Driver’s License or higher and either hold a Level 1 First Aid Certificate or have the ability to obtain one. Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) as well as the ability to deal with the public are key abilities that all applicants must have. Mechanical and equipment operational knowledge is also required.
An operator with experience with driving backhoe, skid steer and loader equipment & PLC knowledge would be preferred. Experience with PRV operation & maintenance, and water main/water service repairs and installations would be an asset. Previous survey/inspection/GIS work and have the ability to absorb knowledge on Bylaw requirements in regards to utility service installations would also be of benefit.
The rate of pay is dependent on EOCP certification, other qualifications, experience and ranges from $27.80 to $35.30 per hour. The job comes with a standard municipal benefit package including pension, medical & other benefits including a significant training allowance. Hours of work will shift between 7:00 to 5:30, 4 days per week dependent on work load and the season. You must be available for weekend work, on-call and stand-by shifts. You must also maintain your certification and remain in good standing with EOCP as part of your job requirements.
