Dear Sun Peaks residents and visitors,
Covid 19 Update
I am very happy to say we still have not had any new Covid-19 cases since December/early January. In total we have actually only had 14 cases since last March 2020.
However….we aren’t done yet! As you are likely aware the provincial restrictions have been extended and in particular there is great concern regarding the upcoming long weekend.
To quote the Provincial Health Office website:
Gatherings at residences or vacation accommodations
No social gatherings of any size at your residence with anyone other than your household or, if you live alone, your core bubble. For example.
- Do not invite friends or extended family into your residence or vacation accommodation
- Do not gather in your backyard, patio, driveway or anywhere else on your property
- Do not host playdates for children
Core bubble
For most people, their core bubble is their immediate household. An immediate household is a group of people who live in the same residence.
For example:
- If you have a rental suite in your home, the suite is a separate residence
- If you live in an apartment or house with roommates, you are all members of the same household.
For people who live alone, a core bubble is a maximum of two people you see regularly.
Even though Sun Peaks has been very lucky and/or very good at minimizing Covid-19 cases, there is increasing pressure on and by the Provincial Government to possibly close down all the ski resorts in BC. This upcoming long weekend could make or break it for all the resorts. As such, I implore everyone to take the above restrictions with utmost seriousness.
With regard to Covid-19 vaccinations, our whole Health Centre staff has signed up to be ‘mass vaccinators’ and we are in discussions with the Interior Health Authority regarding vaccine clinics. We hope to do mass vaccine clinics here in Sun Peaks and we will let people know as soon as we obtain more information.
Stay safe!
Sincerely,
Shane Barclay MD
