RE: Road right-of-way snow removal on municipal roadways
While the abundant snowfall within Sun Peaks Resort attracts residents and guests from around the world to its slopes, it can create some significant problems for road maintenance crews, particularly when roadways are blocked by parked vehicles and other obstacles.
Effective for the 2018-2019 winter season the municipality has procured White Lyon Road Maintenance for snow clearing services on municipal roadways.
As you may be aware, the removal of snow within the resort can commence in early October and run through late April. In addition to the parking concerns, construction activity in and around the resort brings with it increased use of the roadways for equipment/material storage, further hampering snow removal.
At this time we would like to solicit the cooperation of the owners, developers and construction contractors in recognizing snow removal issues within the municipality’s right-of-way, and assisting all of us in keeping the roadways clear. Without the ability to clear the roads properly, access for fire and other emergency vehicles may be compromised and there may be an increase in hazard on steeper roadways.
Please be advised that Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality requires all dedicated and statutory right-of-ways within Sun Peaks Resort be cleared of all vehicles, equipment, building materials, and any other items that limit snow clearing and storage no later than October 31. Items remaining within the right-of-way after this date may be removed by the Municipality at the owner’s expense.
The municipality will also be installing snow markers in trouble areas as part of the road right-of-way snow removal program. The snow stakes will be installed on the edge of the road and we will require vehicles to be at least 4 feet from the markers.
We appreciate the cooperation of all owners, developers, and contractors in this matter. The municipality may also issue fines under its Parking and Traffic Bylaw No. 0009 if items are not moved upon request.
Thank you very much for your assistance in ensuring the roads within Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality remain free and clear of snow for all users.
Please contact Arne Fevang Public Works/Special Projects Assistant at 250-578-2020 if you have any questions regarding these requirements.
Sincerely,
Arne Fevang
