1st Sun Peaks Scouts was formed in May 2013 under the guardianship of Heffley Creek Scouts and we have since branched out on our own. We meet on a weekly basis during the school term in the Alpine room at the Grand Hotel from 6-7.30pm.
We currently have 3 age groups open to both boys and girls:
Beavers – 5-7
Cubs – 8-10
Scouts – 11-14
The groups run individual programs and they are very much child led. Each term the kids get together and discuss what they would like to do. This year we have run a bike rodeo for Sun Peaks and Kamloops kids, been on fall and winter camp, had a go at snowshoeing, enjoyed a movie night, learned to handle pocket knives, had a go at rubber stamp carving, made Christmas crafts, learned about the environment and recycling, participated in the trial of Superman at the Kamloops law courts, learned survival skills, played lots of games and toasted s’mores.
We also have a lot to look forward to, with our summer family camp just around the corner, hiking to the waterfalls, cub car races, helping our community at the trash bash, playing some road hockey and the older Cubs and Scouts are excitedly looking forward to going to the Pacific Jamboree on Vancouver Island in July.
We welcome all kids in Sun Peaks to come along and try us out for the end of the school year. If you like it then maybe you could be doing some exciting activities next year when you join 38 million other kids in one of the worlds largest youth organizations.
