Re: COVID-19 Update
Dear Sun Peaks Residents and Guests,
Well, the past week has been interesting!
First, thanks to Brandi Schier of SPIN for hosting the community zoom which Laura and I hope was of value.
As of today, we still have only the 25 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our area. There have been no new cases since the weekend that I am aware of. Public Health announced on Monday that they felt things here were ‘contained’.
Unfortunately, as we have communicated, our testing site here is no longer in operation which does hamper our ability to keep a handle on the number of tests and any new positives. Apparently, nurses are being redeployed for vaccine clinics.
If you do go for testing in Kamloops, I would ask if you can add my name to the requisition and hopefully, I will then get the result. This doesn’t always happen however.
As well, I know people were/are anxious that there was no communication to the public about where positive cases were located (Public Exposure Notification) with regard to businesses etc. That is beyond my control and is seems largely up to the individual businesses and Interior Health. I am sorry if this caused frustration and anxiety.
The question of when you should get the vaccine if you have tested positive for COVID has been asked a lot. The medical literature is bit all over the place, but it seems IHA is proposing people wait for 3 months post infection.
We at the Health Centre and I personally are so grateful to all of you all who have been understanding and compliant with health recommendations.
We shall get through this.
