Over the years, the community of Sun Peaks has established a variety of clubs and groups that both residents and visitors can enjoy. Encompassing a wide range of activities, our clubs offer an outlet for those interested in artistic endeavours and those keen to put their athletic abilities to the test.

Sun Peaks Community Helps
Sun Peaks Community Helps (SPCH) was formed in March 2020 to address the impact of Covid 19 on residents and employees of Sun Peaks when our tourism businesses were completely shutdown. Initially, SPCH focused on a foodbank operation to make sure that everyone in the community had access to sufficient food. The committee reached out to the community on two fronts, establishing a successful fundraising campaign and later setting up a food bank operation at Peaks West. A website was established and communication with the community at large was made via several communications portals.
SPCH is a volunteer group, the organizing committee is made up of some seven members, a chair and secretary and includes the Sun Peaks Mayor. No volunteers are paid or compensated for their work on behalf of SPCH. The committee, with the assistance of the Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality, set up the fundraising campaign with financial oversight by the Municipality. All funds are held by the Municipality under the review and recommendations of SPCH volunteer committee. The fund-raising efforts were immediately successful. Thank you, Sun Peaks!
With the website established, SPCH reached out through Sun Peaks Survivors and the Municipal website to make sure that community residents were aware of the community assistance program. Community members were assisted with food items as well as personal assistance programs including mental health support. In February 2022, SPCH closed its website operations as there had been little contact over the previous 12 months.
In March 2022, SPCH’s volunteers met to review the need for continued community support and to address the use of the remaining funds held for community support programs. At this review, it was decided that SPCH should consider assisting several Ukrainian families fleeing their country for Canada. Contacts were made through Ukrainian support groups and Kamloops Immigrant Services. Two families were identified and support programs were offered. Both families arrived in Sun Peaks on April 30, 2022.
Both families have received assistance from SPCH and the community at large. We have provided travel and food assistance as well as accommodations all through the generosity of Sun Peaks residents and supporters. Initial complimentary accommodation was made available by two generous residents, a special thank you!
We have assisted both families with visas and other permitting activities. Both families have found work and are establishing themselves very quickly. They are taking English lessons and improving their communications skills. Many community members have offered food, toys, and clothing for the children and are supporting the parents. The oldest boy has attended the Sun Peaks kindergarten and met many local children.
We are still accepting ‘cash’ donations for the families and support continues to come in. Donations can be made to SPCH through the Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality. Please note that your donation is for the Ukrainian Families and if you wish to support a specific program, your support will go to that family or that specific program.
Make your donation cheque payable to the Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality with a notation for the Sun Peaks Community Helps program. Thank you all for your support.
