Education at Sun Peaks has come a long way since the Discovery Centre for Balanced Education’s beginning in 2010. On September 7th, 2010, the Sun Peaks Education Society launched the Discovery Centre for Balanced Education offering kindergarten to Grade 7 children an on-mountain education centre. Only two years later, on August 27th, 2012, School District 73 partnered with the Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality and SPES to adopt the kindergarten to Grade 6 students into a publicly funded community school, Sun Peaks Elementary. The school has continued to grow, and now supports students from Kindergarten to Grade 9 and has over 125 students registered.

The Discovery Centre has changed names and is now known as Sun Peaks Secondary Academy and supports students in grades 10-12.

Ideally situated in a world-class resort and growing community, this is a place of absolute inspiration and learning opportunity, be it academics, athletics, the arts, science, community enrichment or the environment. Our students are encouraged to be true explorers who aspire to academic excellence. All students at Sun Peaks are enrolled with School District 73 in an education program which follows the same full B.C curriculum and prescribed learning outcomes as every other school in the district. What our students enjoy additionally is flexibility, and an amazing environment in which to enrich that learning experience.
