BC Assessment - Reporting for Legacy Strata Lots

BC Assessment -Reporting for Legacy Strata Lots

BC Assessment has sent out notices to some strata property owners whose strata lot(s) have been in the residential property class (class 1) since 2008 under legacy provisions. These notices are being sent to strata property owners that either own or manage rentals for one or more strata lots that may be used to provide short-term overnight accommodation. These are strata properties that allow for short-term nightly rentals.  Whether you use your property or not for short-term overnight accommodations, you must complete this form.

The criteria to retain legacy status (Class 01- Residential) must be met each year.  How the strata lot(s) was used and or managed between July 1, 2025 and June 30, 2026 determines the classification for the upcoming 2027 BC Assessment Roll.

If you receive this letter from BC Assessment, please do not ignore it. You must complete and return the form.

By providing this information to BC Assessment by August 31, 2026, you will ensure that your strata lot(s) are correctly classified based on the reported use.  Failure to respond will result in your strata lot(s) being placed entirely in Class 6 – Business and other, which will likely result in a high tax rate.

Please note, the Municipality has no control over property tax assessments or reclassifications by BC Assessment.  The Municipality is sharing this information in an effort to encourage strata property owners who receive a letter to complete the forms.
