MESSAGE FROM THE SUN PEAKS HOUSING AUTHORITY CHAIR

Message from the Sun Peaks Housing Authority Chair

Sun Peaks Housing Authority is excited to present their first community update to share information about the work of our organization, introduce the Board of Directors, and share future opportunities to engage with us.

On a personal level, I feel privileged to fill the role of Chair for the Sun Peaks Housing Authority. I reflect on the late Mayor Al Raine’s passion for Sun Peaks and I’m excited to make his vision for new employee and affordable housing in our community a reality. This is a critical time for advocacy, partnership, and collaboration so that as a resort community we can secure much-needed housing now and for years to come.

Sun Peaks Housing Authority is very fortunate to have a volunteer board made up of skilled and passionate community members, working to bring more affordable workforce housing to our community. The housing authority is made up of 7 members; appointed by the municipal Council, and includes representation from Sun Peaks Resort LLP, Tourism Sun Peaks Board, and the business and residential community.

  • Councillor Len Hrycan – Chair of the Board
  • Mayor Rob O’Toole – Vice-chair of the Board
  • Bobbe Lyall
  • Desiree Govender
  • Helen Davies
  • Melissa Vike
  • Rina Jeyakumar

In the coming months, the Board will collaborate closely with the Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality and BC Builds to deliver our new rental project at 1180 Sun Peaks Road; aimed at middle-income households. Efforts are currently focused on securing funding, finalizing building designs, and developing an operations plan. Site preparation has begun, and the building is expected to be completed and occupied in 2027. Community engagement for this project will occur through several channels:

  • Online Survey for Businesses: An online survey was released in June to gather input on employee housing needs. This feedback will inform the workforce housing component of the project. If you did not received an email invitation to participate in the survey, please contact us.
  • Community Open House: Planned for the end of summer, the open house will provide an opportunity to meet the Board Directors and learn more about the housing project. The specific date will be announced on the SPMRM webpage and via the municipal mailing list.
  • Email Communication: For any questions regarding the Sun Peaks Housing Authority or the BC Builds project, please reach out to admin@sunpeakshousing.ca.

The Housing Authority will provide ongoing communication throughout the project, and a new webpage will be launched in the fall to stay up to date with project progress. We look forward to share more exciting news with the community soon.
