Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality (SPMRM) would like to notify the community about the planned transition of Support Team Excellence with Patients Society (STEPS) from the Sun Peaks Community Health Centre. Council has made the decision to end the STEPS lease of the Health Centre effective October 22, 2025. The last day medical services will be provided by STEPS in the Health Centre is October 10, 2025.
SPMRM would like to thank STEPS for their healthcare services and contributions in the Sun Peaks community over the past two years.
Sun Peaks has diverse care needs including care needed for the local resident population, migrant workers, seasonal homeowners, and visitors. In addition, the range in scope of care and professional expertise required is vast. There is an opportunity for improvement in understanding rural and resort community needs and putting a plan together to fill as many gaps as possible for our community. SPMRM has convened a Working Group to examine the healthcare needs of the community and provide recommendations to Council on the most appropriate operational model to meet those needs. The recommendations of this Working Group will help inform a Request for Proposals to seek a new health care delivery operator in the Sun Peaks Health Centre.
We understand that there will be questions and concerns in the community about this transition and we will endeavour to provide updates and communications as we move through the process.
