Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality is celebrating the opening of the Sun Peaks Community Daycare at 5036 Valley Drive.
Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality was awarded almost $1.8 million.50 by the Province of British Columbia through the ChildCareBC New Spaces Fund to construct the child care centre. Given the great demand for child care for Sun Peaks residents, spaces in the daycare were quickly filled.
Sun Peaks Community Daycare is a licensed daycare facility operated by the municipality. The daycare has 52 spaces: 18 0-3 years spaces, 24 30 months to school age spaces and 10 school-aged spaces.
“This child care centre is providing care for all ages of children, which is something the community needs,” said Grace Lore, Minister of State for Child Care. “We’re creating reliable child care spaces, supporting working families and strengthening Sun Peak’s economy.”
Mayor Al Raine noted that this daycare facility is a game changer for numerous families in Sun Peaks.
‘Maintaining a stable workforce is an important community goal and this daycare facility will enable more families to make Sun Peaks their home,” said Raine. “We were so pleased when previous Minister Kristina Chen approved our application and this year, at UBCM, we were able to thank Minister Grace Lore for her continuing support.”
"We couldn't be more thrilled to unveil the new Sun Peaks Community Daycare. Opening our doors to care for numerous families within the community fills us with immense excitement and gratitude," said Janice Hoppenreys, Daycare Manager.
