Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality Urges Vigilance Amid Elevated Wildfire Risk

Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality is reminding all residents, property owners and visitors to remain vigilant and prepared as current weather and environmental conditions continue to create an elevated risk of wildfire throughout the region.
While emergency personnel and partner agencies are actively monitoring conditions and responding where required, wildfire risk remains a shared responsibility. Everyone is asked to do their part to prevent human-caused wildfires.
- No campfires – a campfire ban remains in effect
- Stay out of the backcountry unless absolutely necessary - recreational off-road vehicle use is now prohibited on Crown land in the Kamloops Fire Centre which includes Sun Peaks and surrounding areas
- Keep vehicles off dry grass and brush
- Be mindful of hot exhaust systems and equipment
- Avoid activities that create heat, sparks, or flames
- Follow all fire restrictions and closures
Keep our Sun Peaks community safe and protect the people working tirelessly to respond to wildfire activity.
While there are currently no active wildfires in Sun Peaks, should conditions change, residents are encouraged to take the following preparedness measures:
- Prepare a grab-and-go bag with essential items, including medications, important documents, clothing, personal identification, mobile phone chargers, and supplies for pets.
- Create and review a family emergency plan so everyone in your household knows what to do, where to go, and how to stay connected during an emergency.
- Stay informed through trusted sources for the latest information, alerts, and instructions.
