Sun Peaks Housing Authority Marks Halfway Point in Construction and Unveils “Aspen Landing”
SUN PEAKS - The Sun Peaks Housing Authority (SPHA) is pleased to share a major milestone in the construction of its first housing development and officially announce the building’s new name: Aspen Landing.
Construction of the 110-unit purpose-built rental development began in September 2025, and the $54.5 million project has now reached the halfway point. Construction continues to progress on schedule, with occupancy anticipated for Fall 2027.
Once complete, Aspen Landing will provide 110 new rental homes for people who live and work in the Sun Peaks community. The project is being developed through the Province of British Columbia’s BC Builds program and represents a significant investment in the long-term housing needs of our community.
The name Aspen Landing was selected by the SPHA Board of Directors following engagement with stakeholders and a community naming survey conducted earlier this year. Surrounded by trembling aspen trees, the name reflects the building’s connection to the site and its natural surroundings. “Landing” speaks to the building as a place to arrive, settle in and call home in the Sun Peaks community.
“Reaching the halfway point in construction is an exciting milestone for SPHA and for the Sun Peaks community,” said SPHA Chair of the Board, Len Hrycan. “Aspen Landing is beginning to take shape, and we are excited to see these new rental homes become part of our community. We also want to thank everyone who participated in the naming process and helped us choose a name for the building.”
Since construction began by the locally-owned and operated general contractor, Meranti Developments, in September 2025, significant progress has been made on site. Framing is nearing completion, the roof is now on, and windows and doors are being installed. Inside the building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical work is well underway.
The project also remains on budget, with contingency funding in place for any unanticipated costs that may arise prior to completion. As a reminder, the Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality (SPMRM) and Sun Peaks Resort (SPRLLP) facilitated the land contribution (appraised at $6.4 million) for the development, and BC Housing, through the BC Builds program, is providing an approximately $11.1 million grant and $37.1 million in low-cost repayable financing.
The project reflects the strong partnerships that have helped bring Aspen Landing from an idea to a building now taking shape in the community. SPHA would like to recognize Sun Peaks Resort LLP and SPMRM for their contributions to making the project possible, as well as BC Housing and the Province of British Columbia for their funding and financing support.
SPHA would also like to thank Meranti Developments and the many subcontractors and trades working on site for their continued work in moving the project toward completion. We are grateful to the consultants, project partners, and broader Sun Peaks community for their continued support of Aspen Landing. As construction continues, SPHA is also advancing the operational planning required to prepare for future residents, including tenant policies, property management planning, and the future application and tenant selection process.
While applications for Aspen Landing are not yet open, SPHA recognizes there is significant community demand for the new rental homes and encourages interested residents and business owners to sign up for updates through the SPHA website.
